So I ordered my iPhone 4S 64GB and it finally came in today :D It came pre-installed with iOS 5.0, and not 5.0.1. I was reading that some people experienced poor battery life with 5.0.1. Should I keep 5.0 or upgrade?

I went almost straight to 5.0.1 and haven't had any battery issues. All I noticed after the upgrade is that Siri changed from a British guy to an Australian woman

It depends. I upgraded to 5.0.1 straight away when I got my 4S.

Are you having problems with 5.0? If yes, there's no harm in giving 5.0.1 a go then.

Not sure yet, I just got the phone an hour ago and just started syncing with iTunes :p

If you are wanting to jailbreak/unlock, it's best to stick with 5.0. You can dump your shsh blobs using tiny umbrella too, in case yoy may end up needing them in the future. If that doesn't matter to you, then go ahead and update. Some people ARE reporting improved battery life on 5.0.1

I'm still on 5.0 because I saw people complaining their battery life got worse after updating to 5.0.1. I'm not saying that's always the case, but all 5.0.1 was is a battery "fix" and my battery life is just fine.. I'm gonna stay with 5.0 until either a JB comes out, or an apple update comes out with some nice features

^^^ That's about my usage on 5.0.1

Kinda bummed I updated, as the dev team keeps saying we likely won't see a jailbreak terribly soon. IMO 5.0.1 was more a patch for potential jailbreakers than anything else.

There probably isn't going to be a jailbreak released until after 5.1
It seems as though most people updated to 5.0.1. If they released it now for 5.0 only, the majority of people wouldn't be able to use it. Also, 5.1 is around the corner, which will bring some new features/battery life enhancements/bug fixes, and everyone would want to upgrade.

The goal is to hit the most amount of people possible. With so many on 5.0.1, I don't see them releasing a jailbreak for 5.0 only.

The only reason why you see a lot of posts with 5.0.1 problems is because people post problems, not praises. Just upgrade, you'll more than likely be fine, especially of you have no issues with 5.0

My first 4s shipped with 5.0 and the 2nd one I got already had 5.0.1 on it. No difference really....

I upgraded to 5.0.1 immediately after it was available through my iPhone. It was less than 3 days old. Didn't really have a chance to test the battery performance. However, on 5.0.1 there was a minor hiccup, but with changing some settings I'm getting the battery I want and the latest software.

Second image was the average after I discovered that not fully closing large applications via the "task bar" require a lot of power. Infinity Blade 2, for instance needs to be fully closed, not paused.

Jb and/or unlock might be available on 5.0 exclusively. I would keep 5.0 until further news is released

I'm not really interested in jail breaking my phone... I just came off two different rooted Android devices and didn't really use any of the features of it being rooted besides the wireless tether. I think I'll run 5.0 for a few days see how my battery life is with 5.0.

I went right to 5.0.1, and my battery life is just fine.

Just to add some wood to the fire, before 5.0.1 I was able to get 1 day standby and about 8 hours of usage. I haven't come close to that since going to 5.0.1.

Use it on 5.0 for a couple days first and see how you like the battery life. If it's not to your liking then just update it.

Upgraded to 5.0.1 and I got pretty good battery life. Plenty of 3G/wifi, games and music. Blows my htc evo away in terms of life.

you can always go forward, but not backwards. Being on my 3rd 4s, I stuck with 5.0 and have much beter battery life than the first two with 5.0.1. Plus for jailbreaking/unlocking its a no brainer

believe me , apple didn't improve battery at all . even you upgrade it not really help like you want , so stay 5.0 and ready for jailbreak untethered ,
