I JUST Ordered a MacBook Pro 17' - Question...

Greetings everyone!
Yes, I'm a lurker. I've been around for a while, but I just now ordered my MacBook Pro 17"! I'm so excited...

With that I ordered the 2-3 Day delivery option... I'm a little bummed because I've seen so many post that their orders came faster than expected, but on my invoice (order confirmation), it says "Estimated" time would be June 9 :(

I'm a little bummed.. I have a trip coming up beginning the 8th of June... I was SO hoping I'd have it in my hands by then...

What are your experiences? Should I expect to see this date change? Is it possible it could ship (almost) immediately? What are your experiences?

I apologize in advance if I'm posting in the wrong forum... And thank you in advance!

PS - For folks who RECENTLY purchased in the past couple of weeks, are your machines doing good?

Hey there.

I got my MBP 17 inch about 4 days ago, its ETA was wrong, came 5 days sooner :).

But......... its utter garbage, sooo hot, and whines bad, swapped it for a MB black,

Im sure i just got a bad one, but it tainted me

I've researched this heavily for a couple of weeks, but I'm not too worried about it right now, although anything is possible...
I hope what happened to you happens to me as far as shipping is concerned. Was that with the 2-3 Day shipping?

I ordered mine on the 18th of June and Estimated Shipped By was the 30th. It shipped on the 30th, they juiced it to the very end. I would imagine because I made some modification to mine and that they didn't have any "spares" sitting around to ship with the exact specs I had ordered. With that said it should arrive this friday. I ordered the 2-3 shipping as well.

Good to hear! I haven't done any modifications to mine; Well, I just ordered it today, but I maxed it out :)

I'm SO keeping my fingers crossed that I get it by the 8th :(
 
Yeah I was just happy to have it ship within the alotted estimated time period. I was going to call Apple and give em an earful if it hadn't shipped by the 30th, lol.

I think you're one of the first I've read about where it was at the last minute.. Maybe it was the changes?

I HATE waiting! :)
The anxiety is great because I need to take work on-the-road. I don't want to lug around my Mini LOL... My old TiBook will NOT do the trick... It's too slow now.

Yeah I had expected mine to ship earlier than the last alotted day from what I had been reading everywhere. I thought it may have been due to getting the glossy screen. What kind of screen did you decide to go with on yours?

Edit: Just checked my tracking and it's finally updated with the delivery date which is still a green light for this Friday. w00t w00t! /me excited.

I ended up staying with a matte screen. Since I'm a web designer, I didn't want to second-guess about color saturation when I'm so used to doing it a different way. Although the screen is beautiful for DVD's, and general photography, and web-surfing, I just didn't want to chance it :)
I can't wait until I see a good post with how the glossy screen looks. I saw one this morning, but it didn't do it justice...

Thanks again for your responses... I find this community to be a great one; everyone seems pretty friendly. I like that. You're my first MacRumor friend! :p

i ordered mine yesterday as a stock model and its estimated to ship out June 8th. I called and complained that my $3000 purchase was delayed that long, so they offered me $125 discount, on top of Education pricing, and free 2-3 day shipping (since i had already paid for it) so my grand total after taxes came up to 2697. I'm excited and hope it ships well before June 8th.

Seems like a very feasible idea to go with the matte screen. I just heard all of the fluff about how awesome the MacBook screens looked with their glossyness and just had to have mine with it. I usually don't work in any environments that will render screen glare (at least I hope not).

I'll make sure to post up some good detailed pics of the glossy screen 17" MBP the day it comes in :)

17" - 7200RPM - 1GB [soon to be 2] - glossy screen (lovin' the screen I must say)

It came 4 days earlier than estimated.

It's the best Mac I've ever owned! Been with Mac since '92 (Mac Classic). When I ordered my Mac Classic (as soon as it was announced) it took 3 months :eek: to be delivered! The longest 3 months of my life.

Is it true that the glossy for the MBP is a bit different than the MB?

I actually just saw my first MB about 30min ago and I didn't have my 17" to do a side my side comparison.

I was extremely nervous about the screen - the only reason I ordered it is because I'm a wedding photographer and wanted my presentations on screen to match as close as possible to a final print (I know you can get matte prints but most order glossy) and I liked the fact that there's more contrast. I must say it's exceeded my expectations. I love the way it looks - granted my environment is fairly controlled and I don't use it in worst case scenarios. I wouldn't hesitate ordering one again.
