i just took my batterey out to wipe off my powerbook and this happened...

i've taken the battery out before and it's been ok. the time is ok too.

dead pram battery... haven't seen that on a laptop in a good long while...

what batteries do they use for those?

You've got a 12" PowerBook. They don't have a backup battery, just a small capacitor to keep your settings whilst you change the main battery. This means you have to be reasonably quick or it resets to the system defaults. The date thing is down to the Mac's clock, which works by counting the number of seconds after a preset baseline date. The default is to reset back to the zero state, a date in 1969, meaning you can relive the 70s complete with glitter and platform heels. Nothing is broken, you just weren't quick enough in getting the battery back in.

As a side note regarding the clock, it will run out of available digits eventually and all Mac software will have to be rewritten because of the Y32K bug. Now that's forward planning :cool:

Y32K? that's a little ways off... maybe, just maybe Apple will buy microsoft by then.
