I recently, for the first time in a while, revisited some old gaming forums I used to visit.
I'm not being snobby, and the people were lovely, but seeing it made me really appreciate the good grammar, spelling, and general quality here of the communication.

Perhaps it's a trivial point, but it's one I felt like making.
So thank you all ^.^

I agree - MR is literally full of experts (and wannabe experts, sadly) from just about any genre. I've seen the most obscure questions answered very knowledgeably in this forum, and when there are no experienced solutions offered, you at least get many well-thought out suggestions.

...and size of the voluntary force of Grammar Deputies and Pun Police is astounding.

dis is 1 of th best 4ums ive seen 4 grammer:p

Good grammar and spelling just means as a group we're less cool than those other sites...

I was raised at the bosom of Strunk's Elements of Style and then weaned to On Writing Well...and its made me insufferable in most forum situations.

Bwaaaaaaahahahaha

lol I hope I'm not the tireless, pedantic, compulsive corrector sort of person.
Goodness!
I value more the good replies,
and feeling others really think
instead of spurting out the usual narcissism.

Macrumors is one of the best community forums I have come across out there in any subject area. It has a large enough member base so that there is always someone around 24/7, and it is filled with friendly people who are both knowledgeable and kind to newbees. Try hanging around some of the Linux forums... they can be pretty ruthless with new people... goes with the territory I suppose.

Generally most mac owners have obviously thought a lot about their purchase and want to share that enthusiasm with others which is why I think the board is so good.
