I need input. I love my iPhone mini. Should I buy another before they become extinct? Top up the battery every other month and keep it in reserve?

I'd rather forfeit upcoming features than add size and mass.

I was hoping for counter arguments such as “Are you sure you don’t want Dynamic Island?”
I will say this... I know the dynamic island is the future with the iPhone and possibly more. I hope not, personally. It was too distracting for me.... (I know, I know 1st world problems), However I went back to my trusty old 13 pro max. I love this phone and honestly apple hit it out of the park with it. I say, go ahead and get you another 13 mini if you love it that much. I have been thinking about buy a backup 13 pro max but I have apple care + on my device so honestly, I can get it fixed up replaced as much as needed until I get rid of it or until apple stops supporting it.

I wonder if they're still manufacturing them tho in which case they could run out of stock before September. My 13 mini is my all time favorite phone only because I really love the size, there's nothing like a small compact comfortable one handed phone IMHO. I'll probably just replace the battery when needed and by the time that one is shot we'll see.
O.P. I think you should pick up another. I've read that for best results for long term storage one should keep the battery at 50% charge and fire it up once every six weeks or so updating any apps and os as needed then recharge to 50% and put away.

I currently live in México, but purchase my Apple products in the USA because they’re dramatically less expensive north of the border. OTOH, one can still buy older iPhones! I suspect the 13 mini will be available here 12 months after they’re gone in the USA. I can still buy a new 12 mini down here!

Bruh please please, PLEASE! Submit Fedback to Apple to showing your love for the 13 mini and to request they release an update soon!!

Yet request telephoto and ultrawide cameras this time.

I’ve never been a fan of large phones and unless Apple comes with a foldable - wide screen in a pocketable form lien the Oppo FindN2 or flip like the Oppo Find N2 Flip or Motorola Razr 40 Ultra I will not be upgrading. I’ll stick with my 13 mini until a reliable and suitable phone from Apple with iOS replaces it.

Heck I’ll be searching for another 12 mini to use as my main until iOS no longer supports it when I’m travelling or another 13 mini at 512GB (like my current) and will continue to provide feedback, update social media on my love for this phone. Others that dislike are haters which is cool that’s their prerogative but for me and my daily use case and active life and no need to consume media on a phone as heavily the 12/13 mini suits me VERY well along with others.

The one you already have will last for many more years, just change the battery if needed. There will be a new Mini in a few years, then get that one.
Absolutely correct idea! 😮 as long as the 13 mini you currently have isn’t scratched up all to heck, yeah just replace battery! No need to buy a second… unless you want a different color 🤷‍♂️

I'm wondering if I should do the same - I love my 12 mini for its size but the 13 mini is obviously better, and who knows when/if we'll get another iPhone this size. I just don't want to miss the boat on this and they become highly sought after in the used market and end up paying at or above MSRP in a few years when I will be looking to replace mine.

I made this decision recently. I had the 12 Mini for a little over two years. Battery health was down to 85% ( I leave it on charge overnight). I'd read that the 13 Mini had a ( slightly) better battery and a few tweaks to the camera system so decided to take advantage of the Apple trade in.
Really happy with the 13 mini, hopefully the form factor will return in a few years, meanwhile I'll keep this until it's on its last legs and then see what's around.
I've also changed my charging strategy. I know Apple have " intelligent charging " and with my 12 mini I would leave it charging on my bedside table overnight. With my 13 mini I charge it up to about 80% and give it a bit of a boost when I see that it's dropped to about 25%. I'll come back in a couple of years and let you know the results 😉⚡️

Why would they "go extinct"? You can still buy a brand new iPhone X and they came out over 5.5 years ago.

Buying a phone and just sitting on it for years as a backup for when your current phone dies doesn't really make a lot of sense. Better yet, just replace the battery in yours when the battery dies and keep it chugging along. I don't understand why you'd need a second phone if your current one is working just fine.

I don't think you need to at this point. It's still being sold brand new from Apple. When Apple cuts it out of it's new product line you'll still be able to get refurbs directly from Apple (which honestly are basically new) and I'm sure carriers will have them available for another year or so after that.

When I bought my PR iPhone 8+, it had been discontinued for five months and carriers still had (limited) stock. You'll be fine.

No. There is no reason to purchase another 13 Mini when you already own one. Take care of the one you have and it will last you another 5-6 years with no issues so long as you have Apple replace the battery every couple of years.

This. Also, if you use your current mini for 4-5 years you'll only get to use your extra mini for about a year before it stops getting updates. At that point, who knows what may be available?

Sure! If you love it, why not? I think the 13 lineup, while obviously not as fancy as the 14 models, was a magnificent year for the iPhone.

Good point. I’m not an eBay shopper, so I never think of looking there.

Of course, I understand that I can replace the battery on my mini a time or two. But what if I drop it in a lake? lol

eBay is very underrated. Don't bid, just search for the "buy it now" sales!

If you drop it in a lake, get on ebay and buy a new one, since I've proven you most likely won't have a problem buying a brand new 5 year old phone. I'm not sure what the problem is there. The phone will also cost less in a few years than it does now so you'll also save money if you only buy one when you need it.
