I typed up this long document without saving it in Word for Mac, and just before I saved it, I selected and deleted everything by mistake. As a result, I couldn't undo or otherwise recover the document within Word for Mac.

I did a quick Google search, however, and found out that there are these auto-recovery documents that are saved automatically when you're using Word for Mac. I did a quick spotlight search for the auto-recovery documents and found the latest one, opened it up in TextEdit and voila--my document was there.

I don't know whether Windows has the same functionality, but I'm pretty satisfied with OS X and my laptop right now :)

yup, Windows version does the same thing and you can recover a word document through similar steps.
