Hi All,

I would like to know if I would be able to connect the I Mac Mini M1 via HDMI 2.0 to the BenQ PD2700Q (True 10bit monitor, 2560 X 1440P) using the HDMI 1.4 input and get the full 10bit colour signal at 60hz. Failing this, could I use an HDMI 2.0 to Display port 1.4 on my monitor to achieve this?

The BenQ PD2700Q seems a good match for the I Mac Mini M1 as it has a true 10-bit panel and so I wish to get the best out of it for video editing and graphics. The monitor does not have an HDMI 2.0, only an HDMI 1.4 out.
The monitor also has the display port 1.4 but the I Mac Mini M1 does not have a Display Port out.

Cheers

HDMI 1.4 has enough bandwidth (8.16 Gbps) for 1440p 60Hz 10bpc RGB (7.26 Gbps assuming 242 MHz pixel clock calculated using CVT-RB timing).
An HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapter should also work.

The display specs say it supports DisplayPort 1.2 which has more than twice the bandwidth of HDMI 1.4 and only needs less than half of it to do 1440p.

Edit: typed 2.1 instead of 1.4 oops

Hi,

Oh, that's great, Thank you very much for that info.

Cheers
Hi There. Were you able to solve the issue? Actually even i have purchased Mac Mini and now looking for a good Monitor for it. On a Budget so was thinking to go for BenQ PD2700Q…. Please suggest

I'm just putting this out there - Using USB-C to displayport for a BenQ PD2700u and it works. There are admittedly some odd things going on but overall, it does work.

Oddities - Monitor keeps moving to a setting '40-60 hertz' rather than just 60 hertz.
Rare but does happen - flicker and unable to come back from sleep (I do have another device attached to the monitor on HDMI).

Dear you have the PD2700U which comes with HDMI 2.0, unlike PD2700Q which comes which comes with HDMI 1.4

IF the HDMI connection doesn't give you good results, you need a:
USBc (Mini end) to displayport (display end) connecting cable/adapter.

For HDMI, you'll probably want a "high speed HDMI 2.0" cable.

FWIW, I have the 32" version of this screen - the PD3200Q and use it with a 2018 Mini and USB-C to Displayport cable. Works perfectly, really happy with this screen after a year and a half of constant use. I went with USB-C because there were reports of various HDMI issues on the 2018 Mini. No experience with the M1 Mini, although it has been posted here that it uses the same HDMI controller chip.

This is purely personal, but I would find text and user interface elements a bit too small on a 27" QHD screen, which is why I went with the 32" version.
