I may have deleted to many APPs - now my IMAC won't fully boot up

Is there anything I can do short of taking to the Computer shop?
 
Just command-r boot to recovery and reinstall the OS without erasing anything. That should put back any OS components you messed up without removing your data.

If you can, backup first.
