hey guys!! i might be getting an iPhone 3G. the old one, not the new one. im thinkin about selling my first gen iPod Touch for like 100 dollars maybe even cheaper and getting the iPhone while its still 99 bucks. does anyone know how long the iPhone will only be 99 bucks? i want to wait as long as possible before buying. and is it possible to unlock it so i can put it on Metro PCS? or another phone provider? and if i buy it at the Apple store do i have to set up an AT&T plan? thanks!!

Wirelessly posted (BB 8900: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

The $99 iPhone looks like a permanent price fixture for the 8gb. But you will have to sign a 2-year contract to get the $99 subsidized price.

It will most likely be there until WWDC 2010 (although I could be wrong) and you have to get a two year contract with AT&T.

so they wont give me one without a contract... damn. where could i get one for 99 bucks with no contract? buy it from someone, right?

AT&T will likely sell you an iPhone without a 2YR contract, but you'll still be paying AT&T for service and for the 3G phone, you may be paying a premium for the phone. Before todays announcement, a non-long term contract 3G iPhone was like $600.

i dont want ANY contract. i already have a phone and i wanna try and replace it with an iPhone..... thinking about it, i think this thread is out of place lol

You're right, you might be in the wrong forum, but it's pretty simple. In the US, AT&T has the exclusive carrier rights to the iPhones. So, you have to deal with AT&T initially.
