I never noticed any difference. I think the very small difference in the height of the front of the chassis should be noticeable to most people depending on your posture when you type.

No I don't miss it at all. In fact, I kind of despised the design to be honest.

It is certainly iconic and I can understand why people loved it. I just was never one of those people.

I really like the new design of the M1 MBP 14" and 16" and like the M2 MBA even more.

What didn't you like about it?

miss the wedge too, the angle just felt super intuitive, like the machine is designed around you. sadly a max specced m1 mba just wasn't enough for me, and the m2 mba is like a gimped down mbp 14.

It is hard to quantify that exactly. I just didn't like the tapered design or at least the implementation that Apple employed.

It looked anemic is the best way I could describe it. Also IMHO there is a way to imement a form over function design. I thought that it priorized ever centimeter or millimeter of space to make it thinner at the detriment of function.

I like good and simple design language but it took it too far to me. Sacrificing ports just for the sake of space or sacrificing a decent cooling solution in the Pro Models for example.

The air before M series had such weak processors is another example.

I just like the cleaner boxier look? I really like the look of the now outdated Microsoft surface laptop 4 for example. Not the fabric ones but the all aluminum black surface laptop 4 is such a clean look and guess I like boxy over rounded and tapered.

I like symmetry as well and didn't like the thin design at the front while thicker at the back.

I find the M2 air design to be very good. The bottom is rounded and the top is flat but the edges are straight. I don't find it uncomfortable to type with at all.

Don't get me wrong the previous tapered design wasn't bad perse but I just never liked it. Just a personal preference.

When the rumors said that wedge was gone, i was sad because i thought i would miss it. But now that I have the M2, i completely forgot about it! And when laying in bed, it's much more comfortable! The wedge was bending into my skin and making marks

I'm just going to turn this thread into my general experiences of going from an M1 -> M2 MacBook Air.

1. I still miss the wedge shape. The flat shape is a little annoying on the wrists when I'm working on a desk. I do notice in favor of the new design, however, that the weight is more evenly distributed and carrying it around when it's closed feels a lot more balanced and comfortable. So it's not all bad.

2. The keyboard is improved. I'm surprised no reviews picked up on this or talked about it, but the keyboard seems to have more travel than before, and the full size function keys are a nice bonus.

3. The webcam and screen is greatly improved - worth the price of the upgrade alone for me. The extra vertical pixels you get from moving the menu bar up to the notch is great. I will say the webcam does do some sort of instagram-like beauty filter. It's subtle, but it is there.

4. I don't notice a difference in performance, but I'm not a super power user.

5. Battery life and thermals are still excellent. I can put this thing on Low Power Mode and use my laptop for hours on end and it's at like, 95%.

This morning my M2 Air decided that charging beyond 80% could be delayed until 10 AM (with optimized battery charging.). I haven’t used my M2 MBA once on the power adapter past 9 AM on a weekday. Literally not one weekday (except holidays). I got to work at an early (for me) 8 AM because of a 1 PM sales demo and saw only 80% charged—great 🙄

Long story short I ended a successful day with 34% battery remaining at 5 PM. The battery on the M2 MacBook Air is amazing. The sales demo went better than expected and battery life was never an issue.

Yes! I have a M1 Air for work, it's just the best typing experience really. My personal 14" Pro is a lovely computer, but not as great to type on as the Air. I put it down to the tapered design of the Air. Such a great design in all respects IMO.

Sounds like the tally is 50/50.

I hated the original wedge but then I got used to it, is so Apple-iconic. That tapered on edges made it look very thin.

The m1 Gold looked like what will pull me back but after seeing one in real life, too yellow, and probably moving on with modernity, resistance is futile :(

I preferred, and still do, the tapered design. I found it more ergonomic than the boring slab of the current design. The new design is functional and simple but ultimately has no attributes I find interesting or make it easy to use. The older design was both functional and easier to use for me as well as being more interesting (in so far as a laptop can ever claim to be interesting). I find the current design language for Apple products to be very boring and lacking any intuitive appeal. But that is very subjective and I very much appreciate that this is not a universal opinion.

I think it did have a function, which was to taper down the front of the machine where it meets your palm. I have always found it quite comfortable.

This is a very minor and subtle thing, but I've shoved many a MacBook Air over the years into a bag amongst books, papers, magazine and such -- and that taper means the front edge is slim enough to not snag on anything. It's always reminded me of a Zippo lighter design, which was streamlined to slip in and out of pockets smoothly.
