I need a cheap & reliable web host...

I've been paying $8.95 a month for a web hosting plan that I only use for email, storing files and static homepages for two different domains. There seem to be much cheaper options out there but it's hard to tell which are reliable, since every review site has completely different rankings. I basically want a generous storage allowance, good control panels (ie, easy to setup a forum and other stuff) and the ability to have a couple different domains under one account. I am interested in developing a more commercial site down the road, so would like the ability to scale up to a higher traffic allowance and whatever features are needed to support a database-driven site.

Can anyone point me to some good hosts, or to an objective review site?
 
I've been with Total Choice Hosting for a couple years now and love it.

My email accounts with them have actually had better uptime that my .Mac or Gmail accounts.

They have a forum where you can ask any questions you might have before signing up.

its not bad for 5.95 cdn. I always used a U.S. company but will switch over to hostpapa. U can have a host anywhere in the world these days. With the internet... the world is flat!!
 
I use www.ipowerweb.com and have been for years. Plenty of room, great service, always up and stable. I've also set many clients up with them with no problems. Worth a look. I think it's $90 a year.

I'll offer a balanced opinion... I used iPowerWeb for many years, and when I had a change of email they accepted the change and began sending all their ads and promos to my new address; Well, the account goes offline so I get hold of them to find out why. The snide customer service rep (after several hours waiting on hold to speak to someone) tells me the renewal notice went to me old email address even though they had earlier confirmed the change and they were sending all their adverts and sales crap to the new one. They insisted it would cost me $200 to reinstate my account so they could resend the email (which I should have received in the first place since they confirmed my address change). In the midst of our haggling, they sold my domain to a third party who upon contacting them requested I pay $600 to get back. Nevermind that if I had received the notice at the correct address they were supposed to have on file I would have renewed it well within time...

Gets me steamed. I really can't stand this company. They used to be okay, but a few years ago they were bought out by a grade-z outfit and that's when their service took a nosedive. Anyway, if you use them and they're good for you, I'm glad... really. :) It's just my experience (and others I've heard) really pisses me off.

I've used Eleven2 since 2006 and they've been wonderful. I host several clients with them also. Customer service is friendly and fast, uptime is great, all that jazz. :) :)
 
hagenhosting.com did mine for a long time until I needed IMAP.
Now I use hostmonster.com.

Both are highly recommended.
