So I have my new desk,
Macbook hooked to my surround sound, brand new wireless keyboard and mouse.
But im missing a couple things,

1. a 23" Apple Cinema Display (Maybe when apple drops the price at MacWorld *cough*cough*)
2. A lamp,

I want something that can light just my desk (not the whole room) when I turn the lights out at night, and it has to blend well with my desk.

Something small that would set on the desk, and I can move it around easily so that it will light other areas of the desk.

I would like to keep the price pretty reasonable around $30 maybe.

Here is a picture of my setup,
sorry for the poor quality,

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Any generic aluminium desk lamp would be fine with that setup. I'm sure you can find one at Staples or some other office store.

IKEA also have nice desk lamps.

I just went to the ikea website - and they're having some big sale it appears. I'd totally go tonight - but we're getting a (#*$in snow storm. (Stoughton, MA is a haul in the snow I've found)

So I'm goin on the 1st in the AM, while everyone else is hung over. :)

Starting the year anew with a nice Desk and some Lights. Maybe even a chair, too.

That's a long ride from NH..But worth the ride..IKEA's a fun store to go to. Great way to start the new year..

Lights of America brand desk lamp, Model #1127 series

I got one three months ago and it is the one of the best thing I have ever bought.

I've been there before - well over a year after it opened down there - and it wasn't a "shopping day" - wasn't' even a weekend. And they had TRAFFIC directors on the public streets trying to guide traffic in and out. I could not believe how many people were there.

And yes, fun store, and hours of fun assembling your furniture when you get home. ;)

OK, so that part isn't as fun, but at least it's something different. If only I had a bending unit.

Sans touch function - you can get an identical lamp at Ikea for 13 bones. (actually 2 of them)

I have two, so I know. :p

And NO, I don't work for pikeia, and I'm not whoring them out.

I'd like them a lot more, if they offered a "real line" - because some of their designs with furniture are incredible - just built kinda shabby. So they should offer the same look, with the base line, and then a good quality line that is nearly identical.

Edit: Oops, slightly wrong price.

How much light do they give out?
Will it light a whole room? or just a small area?

Greatly depends on your bulbs. They will handle more than what ikea says. I think that is just a legal / broad safety thing.

I have the larger ones with a 27W compact fluorescent lamp, and it lights my whole room up a REALLY nice pure white. (NOT blue or yellow). 4100K color temp.

The smaller one, has a 3W CFL (YES, 3W) - and it is perfect ambient - that one is on my desk just to the back of my imac. Not overpowering for movies / night viewing - and looks nice, IMO.

I can snap pics if you want - in the middle of re-arranging my room, so you will have to excuse the mess.

That's ok, I think i get what your saying. It seems to be a bit more lighting that what i am looking for.

Im going out tomorrow to look for one, I think I have an idea of what I want now.

Thanks,

First lava lamp I saw in person - was also with the first time I got *lucky*.

Grr baby, Very GRR! :D

So they hold a special place in my........ , heart.

St. Louis needs an Ikea. I refuse to drive 5 hours to the nearest one which is in Chicago

[/rant]

Mine isn't 5 hours, closer to 2 - but this GREATLY depends on traffic.

My only beef is that they don't offer nearly as much online, as they do in-store.

Know anybody in that general area that could pick something up and ship it to you?

I'd drive 2 hours 5 is just too much though. I do plan on redoing my room sometime next year, and I may consider renting an SUV and making the pilgrimage up to Chicago to pick up some furniture. But it certainly wouldn't be something I'd do often, whereas I might go there often if one was closer.

I don't know anyone near an Ikea, and besides, for things like furniture, I like looking at it before I buy it.
