This may sound stupid, but my ibook power cord got torn right near the plug that goes into the computer. When I move it a cetain way it sparks a little. I've ordered a new cord but for the time-being can I put electrical tape on it?

Something similar happened to me, and I did use tape to get me through the few days.

The thing is moving it about is not a good idea as it seems to degrade the cable pretty quickly. My guess is the sparks are melting the metal wire in the cord, screwing up what connection you have left, so I'd advise not moving it about much, and certainly unplug it while you're not there.

It's a pain, but you should have your new cord in a couple of days.

I'd suggest you'd be better off leaving it alone until your replacement arrives. I don't pretend to be an expert when it comes to electrical engineering but a power cord that 'sparks a little' doesn't sound safe at all. The last thing you want to do is risk blowing yourself up – or even worse, your iBook. ;)
