Hey all,
New forum member here. I'll be pursuing my master's in film this summer and I'm looking to outfit my MBP for academic and professional use for roughly the next two years. The applications with the most heavy lifting would most likely be Final Cut Pro X (Summer '11 release) and Logic Pro. Here's the configuration that I am imagining; what follows after are some questions I have.
What I have already bought
From Apple
'11 2.2ghz MBP
4GB RAM
500GB 7200
Hi-Res Glossy
From OWC
8GB DDR3 RAM
120GB Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD
OWC Data Doubler for Optibay
OWC On-the-Go FW800 2.5" HDD Enclosure
I will swap out the stock ram and replace it with the OWC 8GB; the former I will send to OWC for a rebate. I will then replace the stock HD with the SSD, then take out the optical drive and replace it with the Momentus XT. The optical bay I will put in an external enclosure. The FW800 enclosure I will use for other backup internal hard drives I own.
I will use the SSD exclusively for boot/apps and the Momentus for essentially everything else.
Can the Momentus handle what I want to do, or should I opt for another SSD in the optibay? Using the Momentus solely for personal media/data and having a G-Raid system at home for media editing is also an option too.
I'd love to have dual SSD's in my laptop, but I think the wear and tear on the SSD's from heavy editing does not justify the current price points for top-of-the-line SSD's. I'm thinking I should edit on 7200's until 240GB SSD's become more affordable.
Any help is appreciated.
