To use for the next 3-6 months. I need to use it for iTunes, I want to scan and use as a document holder, WiFi, a place to hold my iPhone, and WWW surfing. Must run SL! I don't play any games. It's very clear that the next 3-6 months will bring major change to the Apple line up but I need something now as a stopgap, under $1000, is what I'm looking at spending. Even better if it hits the $500 mark or below. Used or new I care not, nor do I care if it's a previous generation or two back. I'd prefer a laptop.

Suggestions? What should I look at and where should I be looking?

Well, if you have $1000 to spend you could get a NEW MB.

I haven't checked eBay or Craigslist, but I imagine you could pick up a used MB or iMac for $500-ish. Just make sure it's an Intel model, or it won't run SL.

I might be looking to sell my 2 1/2 year old MacBook soon... I will PM you if I decide to put it on eBay.

I got a 2ghz white macbook. Interested?

Fascinating. I wonder what the 1st generation 13/15 Unibodies run for, used? That might work...

you'll get a refurbished unibody for $899 here...refurbs are as good as new...sometimes better as they are checked for any defects...save $100 for apple care or RAM and hdd upgrade(which i don't think you'll need...):)

If you're handy with repairing laptops, your best bet would be to find a broken MacBook and repair it yourself.

I got myself a very nice white MacBook for ~$330 total. The MacBook itself was $275 and has a broken LCD. I bought a new LCD off eBay for $60, and repaired it. Works good as new!

Are you sure you're willing to drop over a grand on a stop gap computer? You can look into getting a midranged Dell or something for the time being at around $600?

Interesting. Anyone use Gainsaver?

There's a couple Books and Air's I might be able to use.

you might want to search these forums....IIRC there's a rather long thread about Gainsaver that you should check out

If you are close to a Microcenter, they have the previous gen white MB 2.13 for $800. Or I think Apple has them for $850 for refurbs.
