I Need Help Fixing My Ichat!

please help.
my ichat was working earlier today and now its not.
i installed a couple of things since the last time i tried and i think that is why its not working.
i can log on but i cant see any of my buddies. they can see me but they cant video chat me.
what do i do to fix it?

a newer version of ichat.
i now have all of my buddies showing up but they are all dimmed out.
i called one of my friends and they are online. they see that i am online and when they try to write something to me i dont get it.
