I need help with Mail app.

I was configuring GMail as IMAP. I used the function of use Mailbox for Inbox, Trash, etc.

Somewhere along the way I messed up, and now all my incoming mail from GMail appear in the Trash.

I've been unable to fix this. How can I restore my GMail account and start from the beginning.?
