I wish Apple made an iTunes Pro, the way you can upgrade Quicktime to a much more useful version. So are there any (good) alternatives out there when it comes to keeping track of your music library? I'd be glad to pay for it.

Aside from just dealing better with the actual songs, (duplicates, lost files, etc.) it would be nice if I could export the contents of a playlist, changing the size and format en route. For instance, I'll often have AIFF, Apple Lossless and MP3 files which I would like to consolidate to a remote folder while converting them all to 160kbps MP3s, for instance.

I've Googled a bit, checked out a few things, like Songbird, for instance, but I'm not really coming up with anything that impressive.

Have you tried Automator?

The utility that comes with my Mac? No. I didn't know that it could do stuff like this. I thought it was just some sort of turbo Apple-script utility. I'll take a look.
