I plug my HDD in to the FireWire 800 port
but I need one more to capture the footage.
So, should I buy a FW800 adaptor or ExpressCard FW adaptor?
Will it reduce the speed if I plug in the FW adaotor? Is the ExpreeCard adaptor stable?
Thanks.

Does your HD not have 2 FW 800 ports? If it does you can daisy chain the camera off the HD and as long as its also FW 800 there shouldn't be any slowdown. If its FW400 it will still work but the HD will slow to FW400 speed. If not then express card would probably be ya best bet.

thanks for your reply
my uni mbp has only 1 fw800 port
but i need 2 since my hdd and handy cam run fw800

so i should by a fw800 adaptor plugging in the fw800 port?

He is saying that most FW hard drives have a second FW port so you can plug the HDD to the MBP and the camcorder to the HDD.

If you HDD does not have a second FW port then the express card solution would work great.

Exactly. Thats why there's usually only one FW port on MBP's. You can theoretically connect up to 63 devices off of 1 port.
