Hi

I do have a 2008 Mac Pro ( 2 x Xeons 2.8GHZ, 16 Gb Ram, Amd/Ati 5770).
I stopped using this Mac Pro a few years back, but it still works fine.
I mainly work on my MBP 16 inch these days.

So I am def done with that Mac Pro 3.1. But now I am not sure what to do with it:

Option a) Sell it: I am not sure if that's worth it. ( What do they go for roughly?) - Also, it's a heavy beast, so lots of effort to clean, pack and ship. I would like to get at least enough money for it so I can buy a really nice new case for a windows PC ( that may become a hackintosh,.. maybe not)

Option b) Reuse case and sell parts as spares: I am quite interested to mod the case and make some new hardware work in it. But it would take some work to get that right. Not sure if it's worth the hassle. Could be a fun project, but there are other things I can do with my time.
Is there any sense to sell the parts? Is there a market for it? ( like the ram, GPU, Motherboard, Xeon processors, PSU ) ,... not sure if some people still use those and fix them up, ... ??
I do like the case, but it needs heavy mods to get other hardware to fit in it.

Anyway I am going back and forth in my head between these options and can't decide what to do. So I am looking for some thoughts and advice around this?

Thank you and kind regards

I upgraded a 3,1 a few years ago which I sold on, and have just bought another one (got an absolutely insane deal: £50 for a machine with the dual 3.2 Xeons and an 20" Apple Cinema Display! The seller had no idea what he had clearly).

From my experience a few years ago, the most valuable things are the 5770 GPU - as it's an official Apple GPU, there's a premium - and the RAM as long as it's the original FB-800 dimms which are still very expensive. If you do want to mod the case then I think those are the bits you'll get most value for, no idea about the other bits.
Otherwise you should still be able to get a few hundred for the computer I would have thought.
