She has a 5,1 it has a C2D 2.0, and 2 gigs of 1067mhz DDr3 on snow leopard.

I want to upgrade the ram to surprise her.

1. Whats the best upgrade for this model
2. Can I run 1333mhz?
3. Anything I need to know but didnt ask?

Thanks guys

1. You can do 8GB, but if she has been using 2GB, 4GB would be a reasonable upgrade.

2. You can, but there's not any real benefit.

first off, if it came with 1067mHz RAM then you should stick to that, probally not worth getting 1333mHz, if you do i think it will run but not at that speed so your money would goto waste. Just make sure its important that they are matching sticks

if you want, you can look up your macbook's serial number to find out everything, just google it and you can find the mfg date, all the original components and what exactly is in the macbook, here's 3 links:

Thanks. I know what it has now. I'm mostly looking for what I can put in. I'm only trying to spend like $50.
1. Can I just put a 4gig in each slot? As I understand now it has 2 1gig ram cards. If I am going to be pulling them both anyway, wouldn't 2 4 gigs be the way to go?

K I ordered the crucial 2x2 kit. It was only like $25 and my mom just wants her mb to be a little faster.

Don't expect to be wow'd by boot times or app launch times.

RAM doesn't necessarily speed up your computer as allow more things to be running at once. If she browses the web while running any other app, she's going to appreciate the ability to have more things running with less beach balls and perhaps some noticeable speed.

I remember when my mom called to complain about not being able to browse so many sites smoothly while using iPhoto. I installed 2x2GB RAM modules and haven't heard from her since. I know I should call to check up on her but, eh, she's got four whole gigs!!!

Is four gigs really that much?

If your mom uses multiple apps at once, she's going to see less beach balls and lag, and that is a great help. Especially if she uses a lot of tabs in her browser and runs other apps like iPhoto, games, iMovie...whatever.

She just watches Netflix and web browses mostly.
