My iphone has been acting up and I want to re-jb it. How do I JB again so that my phone is setup exactly the way it is now, w/o losing anything?

My phone:
-iPhone 3GS
-fireware 4.0
-do not need it unlocked only re-JB'd

thank you!

Unless you have SHSH saved, this thread is over. You'll have to wait for 4.1 JB without SHSH.

I wonder what would happen if you ran jailbreakme over itself? I know that MN advises running redsn0w over itself, but not to install Cydia a second time.

Can I save my SHSH now and then re-JB???

You can for 4.1! Of course you can't jailbreak 4.1.

Anyone else ready to barf the next time someone asks if you can go back in time to get an shsh for an older firmware that you don't already have? This question must be asked 10 times a day here.

You do know that not everyone knows everything about this? I get my iphone 4 in two weeks and I most certainly will be asking noob questions when I can finally JB it. As of right now I'm not even sure what shsh is let alone how to back it up :/

thanks.....and actually i'm ready to barf after seeing you make comments like this after such a strong join date you have!

Just do a few searches on this forum and you'll learn about SHSH pretty fast (why they're important, how to get them, how to use them, etc...) because lots of people ask about them.

will do thank you for the help :)

there's a chance you do have saved shsh blobs in cydia.

use tinyumbrella to request your 4.0.1 shsh from cydia to see if its there! m(or 4.0)

Just google tinyumbrella

Ok, so if there are not saved can i just save them now??

No, if you don't already have hashes saved for earlier firmware, you're out of luck. Do save them for 4.1 now; it's the only version Apple is still signing.

Seriously? I'm all for people being tolerant of those who are less experienced on forums (I usually fall under that category myself) - but even I in my infinite pneubie-ness had stumbled over this topic and all answers/resolutions to it within about 30 seconds of joining MacRumors. You don't even have to search - just scroll down about 3 posts and it's likely covered.

OP - long story short, you're fuxxored. If you're phone is done for, do a restore and remain un JB'd until the 4.1 JB is released. Maybe use the downtime to learn to search... In any event, best of luck, and I hope you can get your phone issues sorted out or re-JB'd soon!

My join date is only since February but I lurked for literally years before finally signing up to post.

And if he'd searched at all, he'd have realized that it has been answered correctly many times before. I'm plenty relaxed - in fact I'll sleep like a baby tonight. Thanks for the concern, though.

Yup. Exactly.

To be fair the more time the same issue is discussed, the more difficult to find an answer for those who actually use the search bottom. But anyway don't get too worked up about it.
