So I have a Dual 1.8ghz G5 that needs a new graphic card, as I'm about to replace my dying 20" ACD w/ something in the 24" flavor (non-Apple). I'd like a card that can drive full-screen video from the web (e.g. tv episodes streamed from fox.com, etc).

I'm currently running a 64mb GeForce FX 5200 in an AGP slot.

What are my options? Think low-budget. I don't need high-performance gaming capabilities. This machine is just used for Photoshop & web stuff.

Thanks!

Your current card can already do that. I'd be more concerned about CPU performance and playback issues on the software side.

Interesting. This machine stutters with full-screen video. I'm happy not to replace the card. Any suggestions for optimizing the system to create an environment for smooth playback?

perhaps... so this may be hopeless?

I have a low-end 1.8ghz C2D XP laptop w/ an on-board graphics card & 1/2 the system RAM (1gb; G5 has 2gb) that doesn't hiccup w/ the videos from Fox.

Core 2 Duo will stomp the G5. Not to mention Java and Flash aren't very well optimized for OS X.

I would try downloading the latest version of flash and try different browsers such as firefox. Or even give safari 4 a try.
