I curious how much is iPhone 17 pro max with 2TB so go my Local Singapore Apple online website check,

cost 3k+! Man, you can buy two Base iMac or Mac Studio min or Macbook Pro!

I don't know why an iPhone price can cost so much than iMac , macbook , mac mini ( I Preferring the Base model selection )

even choose the iPhone 17 Pro max with the lowest storage is 256 cost 1.8k+ you can buy a base iMac. ( without add one ram , etc )

It’s interesting that you can pick up a base model mini for $500 usd at Costco or the base iPhone 17 for $799. Seems kind of excessive up front but then again the iPhone is a battery powered portable wireless screen & Mac sandwiched into the size of a makeup pallet in your pocket. There’s a lot of tech wrapped up in the palm of your hand. Is that worth m a $300 premium? I think for a lot of people it is especially if they are incredibly mobile and don’t want to be burdened with a larger iPad or laptop and forget about a desktop. The market definitely speaks to this daily driver preference in personal computing. Why the cost is so much more in Singapore though, I have no idea.

Yeah, the price I mention here is SIN Dollars. You are right too in the sense so call " All been squeeze inside a device ". Way back early days the Tech companies already have this idea , remember The Palm , Compaq etc?

Is like holding a mini computer in your hand. I remember Steve job launch the ever first iPhone he claim just use Your Fingers no need a pencil.

I know, right? My mom had an original palm pilot in the 90s. Crazy how time flies and we got to see the innovation and progression of technology to what we have now. Pretty cool :)

This is why I talk about this topic few days back if I can recall here. Do you noticed now a lot people seem spend more time surfing , email, do some simple work on their iPhone? Than on their desktop , laptop ? Whereas some on iPad beside iPhone.

One thing I see , looks like iPad already become a mini Computer. Even Apple come out keyboard for it. I know there are also keypad casing for iPhone too.

Ipads have had proprietary Apple keyboards since the 30pin connector. I have one for a gen1 ipad in my own collection and while they didnt ever release an ipad specific mouse, their BT enabled wireless magic mice can connect to ipads, so I do look at them as a viable desktop experience if one wanted them to be. I know my mom n dad for example (73 and 81) use their ipads for probably 90% of what they do on the internet day to day despite having dedicated imac desktop and MBPs.

I think alot of people use their Iphones as their primary interface to the internet. Short of writing a 30 page essay on one or working building dense databases, they really can do most of what folks consider daily driver tasks ie: email, YT, video chat, text, purchases, music listening and creation, light games etc. as well as multimedia like video & photo creation and manipulation and they do it really well at this point. I am an avid digital photographer with many DLSRs yet I love using my iphone14 for in the moment photography. The cameras have gotten amazing my Wifes iphone16 pro max camera is jaw droppingly fantastic and fun to use.

My prefernce for heavy work is still a desktop with fullsize kb but that is becuase I can type and was in school when kids still learned typing in typing class on an actual typewriter lol. Jeez, even voice dictation which stunk for a very long time is getting quite good where folks wont ever have to touch a kb or learn to type - just dictate their thoughts and the i-device picks it up and drops it into a text file. I absolutely see iphones and ipads replacing desktop and laptops for many peoples DD tasks as well as pay-the-bills job work as the technology matures and continues to advance. Really I think it already has done this for many people.

TLDR; lol Yes I see more people spending large amounts of time on their portable iphone/ipad devices.

Actually sometimes while I'm outside, I like to observe people how they use their smartphone and tablets or laptop. Do note I preferring here is observing how and most people doing what. I not peeing their phone or tablet to see what they doing on the screen.

I noticed even those having Laptop while doing work vs how many times they on their smartphone even on tablet. Is quite interesting despite the laptop just in front they tend to use the phone more. If you happen to chill in starbuck or any cafe and look around those doing work or whatever on their Laptop.

Most people only use their computers for work, but when it comes to socializing or entertainment, phones are definitely way more convenient. After all, smartphones can do so much these days. Thinking about it, the tech we have now would’ve felt like pure magic in the past — can’t even imagine what kind of smart and futuristic stuff people will be using in the future.

should be the phone we carry become a really Mini computer but the problem still battery. I heard some tech company already invent battery can last dam long just a single charge. I don't know why never go in public usage perhaps maybe still too expensive to product or those companies making MagSafe, Powerbank will lost some revenue? I don't know.

Irony is desktop computers often outlast iPhones. Still using 2012 iMac, it cost ~2000 USD back then. Machine still does everything good. However maybe new iPhones can last for long too, people just stuck in the loop of yearly upgrades, but I doubt 2012 iPhone 5 can still open websites or install apps, I believe even messengers no longer work

The problem is Unless you change the iPhone battery. For normal to heavy user obviously the battery health will drop as months, year gone by. I see from Reddit , some still using their fav iPhone 13 just that they replace the battery . They also know is a cycle at most last extra one year or two with a nice battery health and back to square one...

Back to iMac, Yeah, the early iMac is quite long lasting for year BUT I disappointed on Apple latest M series iMac. Last year I upgrade M3 iMac , after one year of usage suddenly Lines appear on the screen. This is NOT only me , this apply to quite a lot M series users and as months gone by when one use for one year or near two years also encounter Lines suddenly appear on their M series iMac. I do start a thread on this don't wish to repeat... I still using the M3 iMac despite has lines at the bottom of the screen. Whereas the old intel iMac beside it, still running good. Only is slow come process doing some work. I used it for online radio listen to local radio station sometimes for movie or see live stream from Youtube.

I think it is just a matter of time until we get an alternate OS for iPhones & iPads akin to what Linux distros like MX, Debian or Ubuntu are for older Macs. There already is the Sandcastle project for example that is specific to getting android (barf) onto jail broken arm based i-devices and outside of Apple devices, there are already supported alt OS options like Linux touch, sailfish and kaiOS. So the idea is not new.

When there’s an alt os option, I think a lot of people who can, will use it vs buying into a new iPhone with supported iOS.

Yep, nothing lasts forever haha. I just replaced the dvd drive & gpu on a 2009 20” iMac and the speakers on a 2006 17” iMac but those are 15-20 year old AIO Mac’s so is expected I think. That is a real shame that M series iMac gpus just years old are already failing.

My iphone14 is still going strong but I’ve noticed some mild battery decline this year. As well as some performance slowdown with most recent iOS updates. no big deal for me but will be looking for a newer phone option in the new year.

You're right, but I don't personally get. I use my phone for talking, texting, a handful of other things and that's it. If I want to entertained, I want a big screen and go for my tv.. for web browsing, a computer is much better.

I don't have any social media or streaming apps, other than music, on my devices and I'm not a gamer.

Ohh, sorry that you have to experience that🙁 So unfortunate. Can’t say my iMac was that flawless - internal HDD died after 2 years, still had not replaced it🙂 Running of external SSD, hopefully Mac OS allows that. Surely it is not comparable - a dead screen and dead storage, but I just mean that they sort of always had quality control issues. However my M1 MacBook seems to be fine, I really hope it to continue working this way.

As for the phones, indeed. I absolutely agree: batteries are the Achilles’ heel of smartphones and other portable devices. That’s why I will be always advocating for removable batteries with easy swap-n-go mechanism, like in the older mobile phones or cameras. There are few ways to get as more juice from built-in battery as possible.

Over many years I’ve developed a habit of only charging with slow chargers (5 and 10W), not using device during charging, even started to turn phone off to both speed up charging and so no background processes interfere with charging. I also try to always drain my devices completely so all battery cells are at constant stress, this is very contrary to recent developments in battery health but I think this is good for the battery, this way my iPad Air 2 is still usable and holds around 3-4 hours of charge. It is indeed significantly worse than original 10 hours, but I think it is cool that it still serves some basic purposes.

The trick is to have less heat, this is also relevant for MacBooks btw. This won’t save battery from losing 40% original capacity in 7 years, but on the other hand this is much longer than average battery lifespan with fast charging
