iPhone 13 mini I never see HDR with my 13 mini's photos

I have a lot of photos marked HDR in Photos on my mac, but not since I switched from a SE 1st gen to a 13 mini. How come?

I do believe photos against light sources are much worse now, so HDR is clearly needed. Has it got anything to do with HEIF?

I did some googling and it seems that this is not a fault, it's a feature.
