I only seem to get notifications sometimes or when my wrist is raised!

Am I missing something?

I've sent several emails to my account to test this, if my arm is lowered I don't get a notification on my Watch. As soon as I raise my wrist (to turn the screen on) I get a haptic notification as planned, the same with iMessages which I have asked friends to send me.

Is there something I'm missing? Anyone else having this problem?
