I ONLY want security updates to be automatic. Is this the correct setting?

Yes, this should only update system files and security updates.
This article tells you what these settings do

Thank you.

I love this setting because while I do want the security updates to be there I do not want any other updates unless I approve of them.

So are you sure I don't need "Downlaod new updates when available?" @VineRider

New updates are new updates. This means point releases and full version updates. So in your case, you want it off. I'm not an expert on this, so you may want to start a chat with apple and be sure.

If you click the (?) next to Advanced..., you will see a brief explanation of those various settings.
That can help you keep from guessing, or perhaps making wrong assumptions.
(I do use the same settings that you show.)

My advice:
DO NOT use "automatic updates" for ANYTHING.

Don't let software get downloaded and installed "by itself".
What if there's a messed-up security update? (like one that just came out that way a few weeks' back)

I want to be NOTIFIED of updates, but nothing more.
I want to be the one who decides that they get downloaded and installed.
