iPad I Pad button unresponsive

In addition to my I Pad 2 that is slowing down, the button is often unresponsive or slow to respond. Instead of getting the main screen, I'll often get the open paged tabbed.

Are there any known remedies?

You might need to clean it; some rubbing alcohol might make a difference. I'd try that first, but it could also just be failing; the iPad 2 is pretty far past its prime.
