i phone 5 syncing to mac 10.8.1

I keep getting this message when I plug in my new iphone 5:

"The iPhone “XXX iPhone” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."

My Mac iTunes version is 10.6.3

Any suggestions; and how can i send mp3 files to my phone for custom ringtones?
