all the download links i follow online don't contain any kind of app that i can see, how do install the bloody thing???

I havent used PlexConnect, but i think the "App" part is a python (.py) script that runs on your Plex Server machine that redirects the DNS request the ATV trailers app makes.

What operating system are you running? I can walk you through it. I've been running PlexConnect since it first exploded across the web.

It is really worth the effort. I like plex a lot. If Apple ever plugs this exploit I'll get a couple Rokus to sit next to my Apple TVs for The Plex app.

I would like to learn as we'll. I have a windows 7 PC and atv 3rd gen

1. Install Python from one of these links:
32-bit
64-bit

2. Download PlexConnect on the computer running your pled media server.
https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/archive/XML_templates.zip

3. Unzip the PlexConnect archive to wherever you want to keep it.

4. With your Plex Media Server running, open the PlexConnect_XML-Templates folder, and double click the PlexConnect.py file.

5. Open Command Prompt, and type:
Code:
ipconfig
Press enter and look for IPv4. You need your LOCAL IP address. It will be something like 192.168.X.XXX(Unless yours is 10.0.1.X). Remember this.

6. On your AppleTV, go to Settings -> General -> Network -> "Name of your network" -> Configure DNS. Change that to Manual.

7. Put in the local IP address of the computer running PlexConnect. Account for the extra digits. For instance if the IP were 192.168.1.2, you would put 192.168.001.002.

Done.

In my previous post, follow steps 2, 3, and 4. Then Open Network Utility to find out your local IP address. Then do steps 6 and 7.

Python is cross platform so a lot of the steps are identical, and Mac has python already installed.

Thanks! So with plex, the main benefit is I can play media in pretty much any format to the atv? Is there a library there already or do I use my library now?

I can't seem to get it to work, i did the steps, got the ip address, changed to manual DNS, input in, went to trailers, says no media server in proximity.

On the machine running PlexConnect, did you ever install Plex Media Server? If not you need to get it from HERE.

Install it and then if it does't bring up the WebUI, go to the task bar and right click the Plex icon(orange rectangle with black arrow). Then click Media Manager. You will need to follow the prompts to build a library.

If you have a lot of media this part can take a while. I have 4TB of media on a DLink NAS, and Plex Media Server is running on an old Athlon x64 computer and it took a couple days.

Are you trying to get Plex running, or Plex Connect? To me it sounds like Plex, but you are talking about Plex connect. And what you describe above is Plex Media Server.
