You can also try the pick-up in store option when ordering from the online Apple Store. This will tell you which Apple Stores in your area have the iPhone. The phone will then be "reserved" for you for a day, I believe. The stocks are updated nightly at 10 PM (Pacific, I think).

they charge a $50 premium on device only iphones. i would just make the trek out to an apple store and see if they have any in stock.
