I really wish there was a way to customize how the accelerometer functions

I would really love if I could view the Messages app in portrait, and when I wanted to type it would turn to landscape automatically. It's annoying opening the app, tilting the phone and waiting for the phone to go into landscape. Isn't something like this possible?

I agree jailbreaking is always the way to go but it wont solve your problem. Rotation inhibitor just stops the accelerometer.
