Here is why. This is from a guy who grudgingly put even a skin on the back of his iPhone 5. For the grip only. I have dropped many iPhones. Since the 3G. Never broke one. Bobbled the new perfect iPhone 6, out of the box. (Not my finest moment.) Fell on an admittedly harsh floor. But at most 2 feet. Screen cracked. Glorious Delivery Day now is now a sad day. It's not the end of the world. I have AppleCare. Always said, I'll buy a case when I break one. When I pay my $50-100 something for a new phone I will also be buying a case. Just my experience. Clearly could have been randomly bad, but I do have the impression iPhone 6 is awesome, slippery, and fragile.
 
lol ya'll must have some butter fingers. grip the phone like you stole it.
 
Drop tests show it's quite durable but obviously a lot of details go into that and any drop could go either way.

I'm cool with paying a little more to use comfortably (no case). I don't feel the 6 is particularly more slippery than others.
