I have Mac mini M2 with 256 GB SSD and a external with 500GB
From the beginning I move some heavy files to the external and connect them with the system. I remember get near 100GB free on internal SSD
From time to time the space was reducing without clear justification. Maybe Outlook, maybe backups, the question is that I use an app called Inventory to found the heavy folders, files and weird space. Nothing works, space slightly reduce almost every day, not dramatically but at the end of the week was a step down. Last days was around 20GB free. System shows me almost 100GB in "system garbage, others" ... grey color in macOS storage

Installed Clearer, uninstall Microsoft Office and reinstall it to clear cache, read a lot of tutorial to find waste in system, cache, temps and recover 20-30 GB upto 50GB free

One day, after install 15.4 update I review my SDD space and magically I found 120GB free. Almost the same that I remember in the first days of Mac mini

I'm sure is a mechanic of macOS system when it feel near to a limit of space that wipe out all the garbage, maybe the last system update download a big file and round the limit and everything washed away.

What could happened and how to got it again?

Whatever was managing the purgeable/cache data was broken in 15.3.X, there are a lot of similar posts of disks getting 'full' over the past couple weeks
