There's a big crack on the screen actually a few. The screen turned red for a moment and didn't work. I believe I got a text a minute ago and the ringer is still working. I also have a setting where it flashes on the flashlight when I receive a notification. I'm wondering if this could be fixed and how much would it cost?

Well the apple store is a bit overpriced I believe. But do you know if that can be fixed?

It depends if it is actually just the screen or if there is other damage to it. Taking it in to apple is the best option, if you don't want to do that you could go to ifixit and get directions for installing a new screen and hope that it works.

Well how do I know how serious it is?

I think he told you twice. :) Take it to an Apple Store.

I'm guessing from the nature of your questions that you didn't get Apple Care+ for your device, which is unfortunate (I get it on all mine).

Yeah, you can take it to someone else... but I guess that depends on how willing you are to trust their ability to troubleshoot potential problems and give you a lasting fix for that device you depend on daily.

Another vote for Apple store, the diagnosis is free. they will tell you whats wrong with it and what needs to be replaced and they will tell you how much it will cost..... then you decide if you want to do it with them, or take it somewhere else with the knowledge of whats wrong.

What generation is it? A 4 or 4s are more difficult, but repairing a 5, 5c, or 5s is fairly easy to fix.

On ebay, 4 and 4s screens can run as low as $20 and 5, 5c, and 5s screens anywhere from $30 to $50.

There's a real answer for you.

If you are going to replace it yourself get the full front panel assembly, LCD and Glass. Most places sell it this way, but just double check.

As others have mentioned, there may be problems beyond just a broken screen depending on how much damage you did.

Be aware that if you have any warranty left, anyone other than Apple opening up the phone will void the manufacturer's warranty.

If you need a screen let me know. I have a few laying around.

Take it to the :apple: store. And in the future, use an android phone to crack open those walnuts.

First thing I would do is see if it will connect to iTunes. If so, DO A BACKUP!

If you are able to do that then it could just be the screen and not the circuit board. It is not going to be cheap to fix, even if it is just the screen.

No one can tell you more so the Apple store is your best bet!
