I took the plunge on the new M1 MacBook Air, base model, with the idea of passing my MacBook to my wife (Couldn't try in store due to lockdown).

The Air is a lovely machine, fast, great battery, bright screen, Touch ID and the main thing I like, no fan. No negatives I thought, but on swapping back to my MacBook I thought wow, the MacBook is really smaller and lighter to use on your lap etc. and also has no fan. I am torn.

I really prefer my MacBook for the intended uses, browsing etc. I have a Mac mini and dual 27" screens for my work, this is a backup and semi work away from my desk.

I might have to return it and wait for a smaller form factor M1 or use my MacBook for years to come.

Have the same dilemma, purchase new M1Air or hold on to rMacBook. May just get battery replacement and save mucho dinero. rMacBook too great a gem to give up on.

The M1 MacBook air seem very enticing, especially if the iPad apps work on the notebook, but I'm still fascinated with Mojave on my MacBook air.

I sold my base 2015 MacBook to get the iPad Pro and while I love my iPad, I very much miss that computer. It wasn't super powerful, but man was the size awesome. I am very tempted to get an M1 MacBook Air, but I am holding out hope that they bring back the MacBook form factor with an M1 chip, because I would be all over that in a heartbeat, especially if it brought the price down to MBA levels.

I've frequently thought about picking up a used rMB, but without any hardware updates, I've held off.

Same feel here. I love the M1 MBA but it's nowhere near as slim and light as the MacBook. Really puzzles me why Apple stopped updating them. I used to see them all over the place in coffee shops. People love that form factor.

I get the value of the 12" MB as a secondary device, but as an only computer it's simply too small and limited in terms of display size, performance and connectivity.

The 13" display is such a sweet-spot for me, but I appreciate the 12" design.

I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple to make a smaller than 13" MacBook. It's been rumored many times but I just don't see it especially since they just released an M1 Air at $999. If they were going to do that they would have released a 12" or smaller plain MacBook at a similar price. I think the iPad covers the small kids size and ultra portable form factor.

I have loved my 12" Retina MacBook. That said, I'm looking forward to a second port, a larger screen, a better keyboard, a better camera, a better battery and more power from the M1!

I bought my wife an M1 MBA when they were released and took her 2017 MacBook. The portability and light weigh are both points in its favor, but it's certainly a slower machine - especially running Big Sur.

I find it useful for surfing and handling email when I neither want to sit at my desk or break out my 16" MBP. Do I still want an M1 MBA for myself? Absolutely. My wife's MacBook obviously deserves a rest.

I'd be thrilled if I thought I could replace my 16" MBP with an M1 MBA, but the screen real estate is too important to me when I'm on the road.
