I synced my iMac Safari to iCloud and lost all bookmarks - HELP?

I turned on the iCloud sync for Safari in settings on my iMac. I was expecting the iMacs bookmarks to be synced and be available on my iPhone.

Instead the bookmarks disappeared from my iMac.

Is there any way I can get them back? I don't have a full time machine backup either...
