Or maybe they realized that with the struggling housing market at the time would trickle down to consumer products and turn into the financial mess that we have today.

I think your believing they are building a factory soley based on Apple stating is 3rd(or 4th) quarter earnings were going down is rediculous.

or they simply make their own chips.

the said earnings will be down,
the bought patents and a semiconductor company,
they have cooperated in chip design and manufactoring before,
steve jobs always wants to control everything,
apple wants differentiate itself from windows computers,
they need special chips for their ipods, iphones, tablets anyway.
