So I got a 3gs and was going to give my 1st gen to a friend. I had it unlocked and running with 3.0 but YouTube didn't work. I had been using quickpwn and pwnagetool on my mac to keep it updated. I wanted to clear off all data so I did reset on the phone. Bad idea. Now when I plug it in I get the message saying that I don't have an AT&T sim. So I started up quickpwn and it won't recognize that my phone is plugged in. I then ran pwnagetool and gave it the 3.0 firmware that was in my library file to work with. That should be the download that iTunes used when I had it working. It accepted that and hacked the file and put the new one on the desktop as per usual. I go in to recovery mode and use the restore button in iTunes to select my custom firmware. It gets a tiny bit of the way in to the restore and then I get an error 1600 and it fails. I tried an older firmware as well as just putting the official apple one on there and i get the same message. So my question is how do I unlock and update a 1st iPhone from factory reset? Did I brick my phone permenately by doing something stupid? My friend is a little upset that the phone is not working now and I'd just really like to get it working so I can give it to him. Any help is much appreciated.
