I think I got Malware or a Virus...Let me know if I fixed it!

Today (around 3:15pm EST) I believe I got some type of Malware / Virus on my iMac (running High Sierra). I’m not sure if I did (or didn’t) but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

Can someone look through the steps I went through to Restore My Hard Drive from the previous hour (before the supposed Malware/Virus) occurred.

1) Retarted iMac to this screen



2) Restore from Time Machine



3) Selected Time Machine



4) Chose Backup from 2pm (before potential Malware / Virus)



5) Chose Destination



6) Erased current Macintosh HD



7) Turned off FileVault (I assume I can turn this back on once everything is restored?



8) Restore started with erasing Macintosh HD



9) Restore has begun



Did I do everything correctly? I basically wanted to act as if I went back in time and my computer was just like it was in the hour leading up to the possible Malware / Virus occurred.

Let me know your thoughts/feedback.

You restored a backup but it’s impossible to say if that backup also had issues. The malware may have been present beforehand. But it’s just malware, always looks worse than it is with scary error messages.

Here's the thing...If the back up had an issue it would have been from the one at the top from 3:10pm...that's when I put my computer at risk.

I restored it from the 2pm backup (which was before I put my computer at risk) so as long as I was good at 2pm my iMac should be clean/good to go, right?

Basically - if I got Malware or a Virus at 3pm EST could it affect the older 2pm EST backup that I restored from?

if you put your computer at risk at 3:10pm then your 2pm backup is safe

Yeah... you are good as long as you are sure the malware happened after that 2PM backup. The steps you followed are correct.
