I don't know what to do. I bought this brand new sealed MBP off someone from kijiji with no receipt. He said he got it as a gift but wanted to sell it to get an iMac. I'm not really sure what to do right now, I'm afraid if I brought this MBP in for repair they might take it away from me. Keep in mind I also bought it for $1600 and it's the 15" 2.0GHz

Put the sn into apples site it'll tell you if it's covered etc

About all you can do is call Apple.

It won't show unless i register the product.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Apple doesn't police it's product and there's a very small chance they will do anything. Besides, there's nothing you can do. You paid for it now just use it. It's not like Apple is going to give you anything if tell them you might have a stolen Mac.

I called apple and they said there's no way for them to tell if its illegally obtained or not.

Sure there isn't, now they have your number and are one their way over o get their laptop!!!

They can trace it if it was stolen as they have all the s/n's on file, for the instances when things are stolen from stores and such.

Don't worry.

Just type in the serial number to the automated web page. It's really easy (Google it).

You don't need dates, reciepts or anything.

Post after you do this so we can sleep at night.....we are worried :D

Can't you register it and see?

If it's stolen you can at least show proof of your transaction and I guess you won't be liable for anything.

Proof of your transaction from a 3rd party won't help you if Mac was stolen and the original purchaser has a receipt and has reported it to the police. You can still be charged, but it's unlikely. However, you would certainly lose the machine as it would be stolen property.

Yep. That will happen when she gets raided for the human slave racket she's running on the side. The Flatfoots will cross check the serial number and tack on an extra deuce to Her fiver.

P Marlow.

I've already called into Apple and they said everything is fine. I registered the warranty and it's all good.

you don't need a receipt to register it. Once the computer is scanned at POS, it will become "live".
