So, I accidentally turned on iCloud Drive yesterday, and it deleted everything from my desktop and started uploading it to iCloud, and I immediately said "oh I don't want that to happen" and cancelled it.

Now, there's nothing on my desktop and only like 10% of what was on it, is backed up in iCloud.

Is there no way to get my stuff back?

I would never Never NEVER "trust the cloud" for anything.
Not Apple's iCloud -- not ANYBODY'S cloud.

You have just learned what can go wrong.
Always ALWAYS keep a physical drive with a backup of your important files that YOU (not "the cloud") control.

Go forth from this day and learn -- a sadder, but wiser, man.

I believe it is all still there, but has been moved to /library pending upload. Try searching for a file that you knew was on your desktop.

I had a similar problem as I didn’t know that the default at the time was iCloud On. I didn’t try to do anything myself as all the options were confusing and scary.

So I called Apple support and they walked me through a bunch of steps to get everything back. So basically what I’m saying is call them before you try doing anything else or giving up.

...one other thing, check your documents as "desktop and documents" are switched on/off together for iCloud Drive.

Try here:
~/Library/Mobile Documents/

Just open a finder window, and press Shift + Control + G and paste in "~/Library/Mobile Documents/" without the quotes.
