Apple still has to release the iphone 6 to other countries outside of the nine on the 19th. If they offer unlocked then there will be a problem with international Buyers coming and purchasing unlocked iphone to bring back, causing a huge black market. The bm buyers aren't necessarily looking for unlocked they're just looking for iphone compatible with their country network because they want now. This would cause carriers in countries where the iphone is yet to be released to lose sales and incentives for customers to join (albeit minor)

Plus iphone 5 and 5s weren't available unlocked until November.

That's just my dumb reasoning anyway. Thoughts?

Unlocked iPhones were available on day 1 last year with the 5S, scalpers bought some for resale, legitimate buyers bought some, everything was fine. They'll probably have the 6 unlocked day 1 as well.

OP is talking about the "OFFICIAL FACTORY UNLOCKED" This version on the 5S went on sale the Friday week of Thanksgiving November 2013 last year. I know, because I bought one. An unlocked Verizon and contract-free T-Mobile went on sale Day 1.
