Can I use firewire to boot his computer and use my display? I not sure it is the Nvidia problem, but he says all he gets is a blank screen. I was wondering if maybe I could use this method to help trouble shoot his computer.

If it is the Nvidia problem, what would he have to do seeing how we are both stationed in Iraq currently?

press and hold T on his macbook pro upon boot up. connect via firewire to your computer. turn yours on and hold option. select his HD.

Thanks! Now I'll I have to do is dig through my gear and find my firewire!

Oh yeah. Just to clarify. If after I boot up from his HD and everything works with my display does that mean he probably has the Nvidia problem or is there something else we can try?

He has already reset the SMC. Can he try to boot in safe mode which if I remember correctly is done by holding down C during startup?
