i think the new Air exists because Apple execs realized they couldn’t retire that brand as it has too much cachet in the market. But now it and the Macbook are very similar yet Apple hasn’t discontinued the MacBook. That makes me think the MacBook will be the first Apple laptop to use ARM. Notice Intel wasn’t mentioned once on stage yesterday. No doubt that was intentional. Also, the new iPad Pro keyboard was not redesigned to include a trackpad. I put better odds on a Mac laptop running ARM than I do an iPad running macOS. Wouldn’t the MacBook be the perfect device for this? And if it’s successful then Apple would bring it to other Macs?

Makes sense to me too. MacBook is fabless, and all of apples arm chips are fanless. The math adds up. They’ll probably keep macbook around for 2 more years, maybe with a basic cpu boost next year then release them with arm chips in 2020 that outperform half of the MacBook pro lineup.
