.... who had a mild obsession with the glowing MacBook Apple logo the company dropped years ago.

But no, my attached is a screen shot of Apple UK's front page today July 26th 2020. Surely I am seeing illuminated fruit logo such as the company no longer offers, or do my eyes deceive me? i really think Apple's advertising people are as fond of the vibrantly lustrous and utterly iconic symbol as I am. A hint of its imminent return? I would like to think so.

US readers may note the brutal iPhone SE price, that's another story.

It was nothing more than a bragging light. And given the quality of the product, it makes sense to advertise in that manner to those that were setting around you etc. I don’t really miss it.

And yes, the SE price is in another galaxy.

Loved it, but given the focus on energy consumption, climate changes and so forth, I don't think a comeback is plausible.

Btw, in Denmark the price is £449 pounds or $556 dollars, which is considered a bargain for an iPhone.

The glowing apple is illuminated by the display backlight, no extra energy consumption is required.

I loved the light up Apple. Wife and I had two of them, one was stolen and the other one still around. I have a 2017 MacBook and the wife has a MacBook Air but I’ll be updating and using the 2011 soon just to see that logo light up haha.

Oh, didn't know that. Wonder why they changed it then.
Less machining across millions of devices and eliminating a weak point in the lid would be my guess. I’ve seen plenty of cracked screens from my days of repairs from people that think nothing of stuffing their machine into an already too small backpack.

I thought it was just down to the ever-thinner lids, meaning no room for something or it introduced a weak point once you got under a certain thickness.

Yes, thinner lids, weak points - I can accept all of that. But for Apple to show glowing logos in their advertising when in fact their computers don't have them seems a bit cheeky to me, it seems something of a deception.

I hope Apple compensated these people with shiny new macs that they apparently can't themselves afford at UK prices...

So many ports in those images. So many ports.

Loads of people are still using Macs with glowing logos though. One of the major benefits to a Mac laptop over some others is just how long they last both from a hardware and software perspective.

That promotion isn’t advertising new Macs though, its just a campaign about different creative types - every time they do similar they always use a wide variety (and age) of Macs.

A wide variety and age of Macs? Hmmm. Look at that ad again, where they show a lid they show a glowing logo. I do like the Monty Python character with the headscarf, though.

Glowing logos look cool though right? Especially in black and white images 😃

I do wonder if it will make a comeback in some form given how iconic it is and how immediately it pops out in moving or static images.

The coolest, and Apple's product placement has made the most of it in zillions of films and TV shows. Tim Cook and his minions are very smart people, but they can make mistakes.
