Ok.. currently I have a 2.33ghz C2D 17" Macbook Pro I am selling it because it is to big for the portability I need. With the funds I want to get an iPhone and Asus Eee PC this leaves £700 for a new desktop.

The desktop needs to be as powerful as the Macbook Pro. Which one should I get for £700?

I will be able to claim the VAT back and get Edu discount if this helps.

As a believer in getting the best machine you can afford, and if you want a new one and a desktop machine, it means possibly either getting:

• the stock 20" 2.4ghz iMac with 1gb RAM iMac if the edu discount can cover that or...
• the 20" 2.0ghz iMac with some money saved for some additional RAM which is always a good thing. This machine also has a smaller hard drive.
