Title says all.

I'm going to buy the next iteration of the 12" MacBook whenever it's announced, and one accessory I will definitely be picking up is a USB-to-monitor dongle.

The thing is, however, I would like the ability to output to both VGA and HDMI (not simultaneously, obviously). I know that Apple offers USB-to-VGA and USB-to-HDMI dongles separately, but I figure I would try to save a bit and instead, buy a USB-to-VGA dongle from Apple and a third-party HDMI-to-VGA dongle. Would that work just as well, or is this going to be a case of "you get what you pay for"?

Have a look here from the top of the forum: Where to post USB-C accessory threads and link to Super Sticky Thread

The linked thread suggests this Dell adapter may do what you want: http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=470-abqn

I think there is also some discussion about whether you can chain an HDMI to VGA adapter but I haven't read it all the way through.

Best to search the forum first, as I believe the Dell adaptor may not work with the Retina Macbook. The one below certainly has issue.
