Okay, so... I've only ever owned MacBooks and MacBook Pros my whole life since 2007.
These portable devices have always been password protected and have been by my side for the most part, even during travel.
I have a 2009 MBP that has the max. capacity of RAM and an SSD and runs pretty well, however the MBP itself looks beat up and has seen better days, not to mention the Battery life isn't that great and dies after almost 3 hours. I've replaced the battery twice in the past 10 years.
I've seen these MBP stands/mounts which I think look great and want to display my MBP on my living room and have it connected to an external monitor and wireless Apple trackpad and Magic keyboard. Essentially I want to make this 2009 MBP into a sort of Mac Mini that will only ever stay at home moving forward.
I'm picturing a desk with a MBP on a stand, connecting to an external monitor with the cables hidden behind the desk and a wireless trackpad and wireless keyboard. When I get home every evening I want to just tap a key on the keyboard or tap the trackpad and the external monitor prompt me for my MacOS password. I'm freaking out that since it would always be connected that someone one day could theoretically break into my home and take the MBP itself and they would have access to all my data and be able to access my stuff one way or another.
I guess what I'm really wondering is how people set up their portable Apple products, securely, at home for the long term. I wouldn't be attaching any sort of Kensington lock on this MBP. Maybe I'm just freaking out that my MBP would behave differently if it's always connected and turned on at home.
My goal is to have this 2009 MBP stay at home, have a 2016 MacBook Retina in my backpack alongside my 2018 iPad and iPhone 8+.
