... And she has a samsung touch screen smartphone w/ at&t data plan. Can I just swap sim cards? Or do I have to jailbreak the iPhone first to accept the sim?

Throwing her sim in will make the connect to iTunes thing appear, if not at first then when its power cycled. so if u dont wanna pay the iphone data plan then def needs to be unlocked

Okay I unlocked the phone and it works flawlessly with her at&t SIM card. Now will her existing data plan be utilized by the iPhone, without incurring "iPhone" data charges?
